2011 starts with a bang!!Thanks to No One Killed Jessica
Directed by Raj Kumar Gupta
Produced by Ronnie Screwvala
No one killed jessica, the first release of this decade is a cinematic sensationalization of the jessica lal-murder case which heightened our patriotism and
instilled faith in our judiciary system and most importantly in us that if united,we can indeed bring about a change.Director rajkumar gupta who surprised everyone with the edgier 'aamir' slather's on this inspiring 'triumph of good over evil' story with finesse and noteworthy adroitness. The film cloys us with a rainbow of feelings.we are livid, when we see the criminal grinning unabashedly almost oblivious to his crime,at the same time it makes us feel insecure to even live in our own country. But the biggest achievement of the film is that it fills us with positivity and hope.Hope that Good does always prevail over evil, however strong evil might be.The highlight of the film is the coming together of the finest talents of indian cinema Rani and Vidya who play dramatically opposite characters not only in terms of their mannerisms, styling and personalities but also in terms of their mindset.
The film begins with meera gaeity,a feisty, horny cuss-word spewing unapologetic ndtv news reporter sharing her thoughts about delhi, the city which she has grown up in,the city which is heartless and stark yet quite ironically named DILli(dilwalon ka shehar). The story then directly shifts to the ominous night when jessica was shot, right in the beginning of the film the entire sequence of what and how things took place on that diabolical night was shown ,thereafter the tireless struggle for justice kicks off,the first half mainly deals with sabrina's indefatiguable attempts to get the influential cold blooded murderer of her sister behind the bars.Sabrina ,a self confessed naive'behenji' in complete contrast to the vivacious jessica dolls up in oversized tea-shirts,shudders at being gheraoed by pesky journalists, suspects that a conspiracy is being hatched to camouflage the case. She is told by the investigating officer played deftly by rajesh sharma, that inspite of the presence of 300 witnesses only 7 could be pinned down as key witnesses, others claimed that they all left before 12 citing cockamamie reasons!!!Sabrina still hopeful battles it out herself by trying to nail down the prime witnessess one by one by going door to door. The film shows us a clear picture how the court proceedings took place.fortunately the trials and tribulations are refreshingly real
and there are no "main geeta ke haath mein rakh mein kasm khata hun" reels.
and there are no "main geeta ke haath mein rakh mein kasm khata hun" reels.
Without revealing anything about the MAIN PRIME WITNESS who forces the judiciary
to shut the case and dashes sabrina's confidence ,the film then deals with the media's invasion into the case and therefore meera gaiety who is all this while only seen for either having inconsequential sex with a random person or foul mouthing her colleagues comes into the front and takes charge.MEERA who had earlier snubbed the case when asked to take it up as she felt it was low profile and too petty for her to dominate. The go-getter she is ,meera rebukes her boss and almost bullies the channel head into her confidence on being denied pursuit of the issue.Thereafter the story gets momentum and the audience is given a roller coaster ride as meera breezes through the facts in the case, realizes them, unmasks the spineless witnesseses by conducting a string of hilarious mind boggling sting operations and practically reaches out to every indian home who were unaware that 'JUSTICE HAS BEEN DENIED'.What follows is the awakening of the sentiments of the mangopeople and their quest for justice for jessica which is potrayed in a pragmatic manner, rdb effect is given its due and the so is the beautiful candle march which is coupled with the soulful melodies of amit trivedi(dua). The penultimate scenes throw light on how the president, the prime minister and the entire judiciary takes notice of the public outrage and revises the court's decision. The last scene leaves a lump in the throat.

Coming to the performances,Except for rani and vidya, all the actors are new but have done a splendid job.Vidya's Sabrina as a bereaving sister seeking justice is a wallflower. She is restrained and simplistic in her approach to the role.Dont compare her with the real life sabrina who is more dynamic.Vidya's sabrina is poignant and introvert yet mentally rigid. She chooses to act though silence.Watch out for her in the scenes where she walks mindlessly in the steets lost bumping into an elephant and gets startled or the scene where she remembers jessica and an important incident which gives her the courage back to be rebellious again or the one where she vents out her frustration.OUTSTANDING.Vidya shows her histrionics to the tee and gives a flawless and inspiring performance which is one of the highlights of the film.Just see her emote and you will feel that she is far ahead of the rat race. As the bitchy, uninhibited and foul mouthed journalist Rani who commands the second half of the film is a delight to watch. She lights up the screen everytime she comes. We as the audience simply wait for meera to appear. As meera, rani makes a complete departure from the stereotypical saccharine sweet girl which she has patented. It's indeed her comeback film. The character is demanding and she nails it.She relentlessly yet seamlessly uses the F word, hilariously dumps her partner amidst sex and bitchily sabotages her subordinate's assignments. The scenes between meera and her boss gaurav(satyadeep mishra) are humorous. She provides superlative entertainment value to the film. And Oh boy,she does remind us of barkha dutt uncannily. What is interesting is the fact that the two characters are distincly opposite to each other,Meera is the fire to sabrina's ice.But unfortunately share very few scenes together.Myra blows life into jessica, she is a revelation for me.Her potrayal of jessica is synomymous to a resilient fawn being hunted down by a tiger.Of the supporting cast all except the artiste playing jessica's mom(she hams funnily) pitches in a measured performance. But the real hero of the film is AMIT TRIVEDI.His rendition of a semi-metal track dilli pips all the other songs in the charts, aali re is not entirely used in the film.aitbaar and yeh pal are melodious and dua comes at the right time generating goose-bumps.Credit has to be given to amitabh bhattacharya too for writing ground breaking lyrics.Surely it will be one of the best albums of this year.Equally emblematic is the background music given by amit trivedi. The dialougues(Rajkumar Gupta) are effective and applause-worthy ,so is the screenplay(Rajkumar Gupta). The camera-work(Anay Goswami) is efficacious, the mundane locations look real. The editing done by aarti bajaj could have been a tad better though.
Having said that,Nokj is not without it's flaws. The film is languidly paced and loses it's command over the audience sometimes, also some scenes are overtly melodramatic, amateurish and pretentious, intended to derive an applause from the audience. The marriage between reality and bollywood also seems disjointed sometimes.
But Nokj is an extremely important film for the audience. It is able to re-iterate the fact that power should lie with the people and not the more fortunate ones,it imbues us with hope and love for our country,it ingeminates that a good script rises above all flaws.Watch it twice and you will love it more. This is a film which will entertain you in two different ways, watch it with few people in the theatre,it will choke you, watch in a packed theatre,it will tug at your heart less but will definitely leave a smile of hope on your face.A rare masala gripping thriller, definitely a pleasant change from the crap that bollywood is sadly saddled with,Dont miss it for humanity sake!!!
Four candles for this one!!

AARUSHI-A CANDLE IN THE DARKNESS
Few days Back I was watching the National Geographic channel. There was a regular programme going on called”SURVIVAL”,where they show herbivores being trounced and hunted down to death by carnivores.Obviously they showed the banal killing of a deer by a tiger. The fawn was playfully jumping and chaffing around quite unaware of her gory fate. The tiger acted with alacrity and when the fawn was a bit out of place, pounced upon her and sped away. What follwed next was “TEARING AND SCRATCHING “ of the body of the helpless soul.I watched it with sympathy and disgust. But that’s the law of the jungle, that’s called survival albeit in a brutal way.
I changed the channel, grabbed a packet of lays and zeroed in on HEADLINES TODAY.The natty news reporter screeched “A 14 year old girl murdered ruthlessly”,I was not perplexed at the outset, nowadays its very common,we have become callous to the monstrousity prevalent in this world.Who cares now if 200 people die in a train accident,if a young guy dies out of frustration,a girl is raped or a family is ruined by embezzlement of funds.Who cares about the lamenting of a widow,or an old mother who loses her son in an a mishap. The number of people dying remains as mere “numbers”.Have we ever thought the pains and agonies behind the curtain,NO.So this mint fresh news did not come as a surprise to me,I glued to the television screen by that time the media had started to splash the news with doubly redoubled energy. It was a jamboree for them, funtime for the journalists to shoot the deplorable and devastated family members with pesky questions and interrogations. The little girl’s photo was blared.I was thunder-struck,she had similar features as my cousin sister, the only difference being aarushi-the victim was in class 9 and she is in class seven.Few names cropped up.The blame game began."He killed that girl,no it was him,no it was her Father!!!!!".Then character assassination followed soon."That girl was characterless, this was projected by the media ,then they talked about her relationships, yes the pathetic media forgot that they were taling about a 14 year old. Then one day, an aggrieved mother came out with teary eyes and addressed the scavengers, yes the so called media who were doing their snooping.I wondered and pondered over the ruthlessness, not of the media, but of GOD,they say everything happens for the good, what good does HE want to show us?An innocent girl got murdered not only once, but for 100 times, first her physical death occurred and what followed was intermittent murders by the media and the goofish people who accused aarushi of absolutely Cockamamie affairs. What would she be feeling now?And how her parents are taking it,have we ever thought about it?think about it,all prayers gone awry, how will they believe in God now, even the almighty cannot face the oppressed souls who have lost everything,Whenver I watch her on TV(yes the media has done a terrific job by sensitizing the nation about the brutality of the murder by showing clips from her life, but that’s because they need trps),their pains are far more than the greatest greifs in this entire universe.I am sure if one thing god would like to change now is the death of an elfin named aarushi,if GOD is listening ,THEN ANSWER ME,When will the end of the dark tunnel appear for the Talwar family?Arrange something for them fast!!!!!!!!!
ITS disgusting and saddening to see the poor girls' image being distorted just like the deer's body was torn into pieces by the tiger. In this case the tiger is the people from the media who are very much humane, atleast they pretend to be so.Let her soul rest in peace and she get's to taste the holy dew of heaven.God turn aarushi into an angel and never send her back to this shittish world.

TARA RUM PUM-AN EMOTIONAL PINNACLE
Eyes shut. There was numbness all around.I could hear my father snoring faintly. It was the fatal night of 10th august 2006.The much anicipated film "Kabhi alvida na kehna" was about the hit the theatres the very next day.I was already feeling the adrenaline rush.Karan and his gang had left no stones unturned to promote KANK.I was overenthusiastic about the film.Because it was the first release of Rani after the stupendous success of Bunty aur Babli.Rani had already conned into my heart and I found myself singing Mitwa in my dreams.AAH.Dreams-unbriddled flights of fancies.Dreams are the vehicles to our success.Come to think of it.Through our dreams we can conquer the whole world.Especially day dreaming which I love.I thought kank would be the year's biggest blockbuster and add one more best actress plaudit to her name. But alas.I was transported back to reality as soon as the first show got over.Even the fanatic fans of srk who EXCITEDLY DANCED ALL THE WAY from their fan club beating the dust and heat to the theatre expressed their dissapointment. There was not that stereotypical chuckle of joy in the faces of the audience.Ditto in the communities dedicated to the film in orkut."SRK SUX,RANI SUX,CRAP MOVIE,WHAT A WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY,KARAN HAS GONE MAD,YUCK--These were the commonplace cries from the janta.Kank was meant for the creme de la creme and not for the masses-The critics hailed. But who cares. The film tanked.Overseas it was a blockbuster but the film registered hatefulness in the minds of people.Personally I loved it though.
The one thing i noticed during the promotion of KANK was rani mukerji's absence.Where is rani??We fans enquired inquisitively.Pat came the reply from a site.RANI GOES WESTERN FOR TARA RUM PUM.OK we fans were relieved. She was shooting with saif in new york.SO now we fans penned our hopes on the film.In the mean time babul flopped(no regrets though).Tara rum pum.New film of rani.I PUBLICIZED the film as much as possible in my friend's circle. What excitement really.Inexplicable.Then one day I heard the promo has come out with salaam-E-ishq.I was over the moon.Hastily I sneaked into youtube.Typed tara rum pum and fortunately the video was uploaded.I got a bit delirious.I started to watch it.MY heart was thumping fast. The video started with the four protagonists jumping and the little girl "princess" introduces each one of them. Then the title music was played.Saw some speedy scenes, some snippets of the song "hey shona" and "ab to forever".The promo opened to a delectable response.I could see rani and saif fans complimenting the video and saying "waiting for the movie".Few days passed by.The promos were aired on television.First the song hey shona was promoted.I caught a glimpse of the song and jumped at my feet.A friend of mine created a community for the song and I got busy publicizing it like a mad cheap and shameless fan(proudly so).Suddenly I Realized that there was no Buzz around the film.WHat's wrong I asked myself. My co-mod told me "YASHRAJ "is not promoting the film.Yes really. What a horrible promotion.Promos hardly came on air.We literally had to wait for them to come. The release date neared.Still no change in the promotional strategy.Neither saif nor rani made a public appearance.Only there was a contest organized by NDTV.Both of them came and talked for few minutes and vamoosed. Then the fateful day of 27th april 2007 arrived.Nevertheless I was nervous.Maybe more tensed than the stupid producers of the film who had already dugged the hole for the film. The nail in the coffin was placed by the malicious Media who deliriously declared"TRRP IS A FLOP" on the very first day.Reson-THE FILM DID NOT OPEN WELL AS COMPARED TO Other YAHSRAJ FILMS".Ok point noted. But hey what about the perky folks who flooded the communities of TRRP with mirthful comments like"WONDERFUL FILM,ONE OF THE BEST FILMS I HAVE EVER SEEN,GREAT MOVIE ,LOVED IT,WOW RANI AND SAIF WERE BRILLIANT,WOW THE KIDS WERE ADORABLE,BROUGHT TEARS TO MY EYES,I LOVE PRINCESS AND CHAMP..?I was a witness to all of them.
I caught the movie on 28th april at the menoka cinema hall in kolkata(which is now dashed to smithereens because of the 6 consecutive flops from yashjraj, the ticket seller jokingly told me the other day"TPTM AGAR NAHI CHALI TOH TUMHE MEIN ANDAR GHUSNE NAHI DENA WALA")(laugh out loud). The hall was jampacked. It was a fullhouse to my delight.THE WHISPERS WERE ON about rani's ill-fitting wig in the first half.SOme guys were saying"why this wig".But I preferred to watch the performance instead. The film rolled and came as a delightful and most cherishable experience of my life.I loved tara rum pum.Not even a single frame of the movie was boring according to me.It was a complete entertainer with a brilliant though cliched climax. The songs were massively underrated. The title track "TA RA RA RA RAM TA RA RA PUM" Was a tearjerker.MY favourite though will always remain HEY shona. Not only the song but the choreography was intricate and beautiful. The way rani pulled saif's cheeks and pressed her feet on his were some magnificent steps from vaibhavi not to mention the signature step. The film was liked by many. Some of the posts(from rani's community and trrp community) are still etched in my memory "HEY WHY IS THE FILM NOT WORKING,IT WAS SO NICE".well not exactly. The film was a successs and was rocksteady at the multiplexes.it earned 11 crores in the first week.Taran adarsh declared a hit and Boxofficeindia said it's a semi-hit.CONTRARARILY to the haters of rani who said"its a flop".But hit or flop,i dont care.I Loved tara rum pum to the hilt.It was one of the most well executed films I have seen.I did not care whether it is copied from 3 hollywood films or not.SO are the other blockbusters.I did not care when people said "its a crap,a racer never loses, thats impossible.it seemd inconsequential to me.I got the message which the director was trying to convey."KHUSHI YA GAM ZYADA HO YA KAM,JEETEGE HUM MILKE TARA RUM PUM tara rum pum".YES it was a film about unity and overcoming obstacles unifiedly as a family. It preached unity and solidarity. And the characters of saif and rani were reminiscent of many parents who also swim out of the sea of troubles by staying together. And the climax where rani sheds tears on watching saif romp the race proved her mettle again as an actress and gave me enough reasons as a rani fan to celebrate the film .It rocked. But THE MOST disgusting part were the award ceremonies which were so ruthless that they brutally gave the performances a miss.OK DONT NOMINATE SAIF,DONT NOMINATE RANI,BUT HEY HOW DARE YOU NOT NOMINATE THAT LITTLE GIRL WHO PLAYED PRINCESS?DARSHEEL SHOULD HAVE WON THE BEST CHILD ARTISTE AWARD AGREEd BUT WHY NOT A MENTION OF THAT POOR GIRL.SHE WAS EXTRAORDINARY.EVEN A RANI HATER WHO HAPPENS TO BE MY FRIEND AGREED WITH ME ON THAT.THAT WAS AWFUL AND GHASTLY AND I FEEL LIKE STABBING THE SO CALLED PAISA KHANE WALA JURY MEMBERS.Many films will come and go.People might forget the film.BUT I would pray to god so that the film is saved from curse of forgetfulness. My heart aches when I see undeserving films full of stupid jokes becoming blockbusters. This film will always be very special to me.It will be inscribed in my heart even when I am 60.Becaue it touched my heart and made brought me closer to my family. And when the music was played in the background after race and rani was crying OUT OF HAPPINESS in the hospital it truly felt like I am walking in the clouds because I as a fan was proud again and It made me feel warm.A true zenith of happiness.

MY FIRST DAY IN BLOG
Multitudinous thoughts flock my mind every now and then.I always felt like penning them down or create a reflection of them practically so I could visit them often. They say heart is the most secret chamber of a person.Very few people give an outlet to their actual emotions through their countenance.I don't know if I am one of them but still this blog is an apt way to bring forth my intimate emotions so far that had been mired deep inside me.I have been an extrovert person right from my childhood.A leo by birth I was mercurial right from the word go.I was boisterous as a kid.My mother had a tough time handling me.The funniest part is that one of my uncle fortold that I am going to be huffy when he came to see me for the first time in the hospital.Right he was.I was every cousin's nightmare. They hated my attitude.I was snooty, pigheaded, rumbustious, straightforward, cranky, irritating like hell. Not that they like me now(laugh out loud). But yes the situation has improved. My parents have been very patient.I was a problem child.I Changed three schools in 3 years.I was Literally hauled down to the threshold and ducked into the car and dispatched.I never liked going to school until i found my permanant temple of learning.I love sleeping.Sleep is the most effective panacea to troubles.Since I am always surrounded by zillions of problems i find slumber the calmest medicine.I am an emotional person. It takes gallons of time for me to emerge out of the cocoon and mingle with people.I am a happy go lucky person but not overtly.Have oodles to write but for today its more than enough.
